Proposition 65 Warning

PPROPOSITION 65 WARNING

For residents of California

WE ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING WARNING FOR PRODUCTS LINKED TO THIS PAGE:

WARNING:   Consuming this product can exposure you to chemicals, including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information on Proposition 65, go to p65warnings.ca.gov.

INTRODUCTION

Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) entitles California consumers to information about their exposure to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm frequently based on laboratory animal studies.

Prop 65 does not limit the sale of products. It just requires a warning notice on any product that contains at least one of the 800 chemicals mentioned by the proposition. The products embedded in the proposition include pesticides, industrial chemicals, heavy metals, and vitamins at high levels.

Advanced Humeomics’ commitment to health and safety prompted us to share our thoughts on Prop 65 and what we have done to ensure the safety of our products.

WHAT SORT OF CHEMICALS ARE IN THE PROP 65 LIBRARY? HOW DO THEY GET THERE? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Some of the chemicals in the Prop 65 library are rare, and others, including lead, are widely distributed in the environment around us. By definition, widely distributed chemicals may often find their way into commonly eaten foods across the food supply.

California relies on a clearly defined process to decide whether a chemical should be added to the Prop 65 library. While the process has its merits, it also has some challenges. In particular, the high-dose animal studies that qualify a chemical for the Prop 65 library may not approximate the dose a consumer is reasonably exposed to in a typical product. Regarding reproductive toxicants, the proposition’s requirement that warnings be triggered at exposures 1000 times lower than the lowest level at which animal studies show no effect on reproductive health is uniquely stringent. Though the intent of Prop 65 is to ultimately promote consumer choice and safety, a Prop 65 warning does not mean that a product is automatically unsafe.

HOW DOES PROP 65 COMPARE AGAINST OTHER STANDARDS?

Prop 65 standards are among the most rigorous in the country, and what is required in California is not required in other states or by the Federal government. This explains why a product with a warning label in California lacks the same label in another state even though they are exactly the same product.

When it comes to lead, the Prop 65 warning is triggered at 0.5 micrograms per day, which is notably more stringent than federal action limits and international standards.

WHY DON’T ALL PRODUCTS WITH HUMIC ACID CARRY A WARNING?

There are a variety of reasons for the discrepancies, and most boil down to differences in the interpretation of the law, inconsistent enforcement by the state, or choice. What’s important to understand is that just because a similar product does not have a warning does not necessarily mean that the product is free of the chemical you may be interested in.

WHAT HAS ADVANCED HUMEOMICS DONE TO ASSESS THE SAFETY OF HUMAVIR?

The question Advanced Humeomics intended to answer was whether the lead in Humavir is absorbed by the body?

In early 2021, our founder, Dr. David Socol, started two initiatives. The first was to complete testing with existing product to monitor serum lead levels in individuals using Humavir. The second was to work with Advanced Humeomics’ partners to reduce the lead content of its proprietary humic acid complex by 80% or more.

Remarkably, we were able to achieve the lead reduction goal quickly. By improving their processes, our partners were able to consistently achieve our lead reduction goals and produce the best quality raw material for Humavir – ever.

Regarding the first initiative, blood samples from individuals using our historical humic acid formula, either as a standalone ingredient or in Humavir, were universally normal and did not show any significant change from baseline when baseline results were available for comparison. The individuals in this test group had been using our historical humic acid formula or Humavir from several months up to 20 years.

Test result in individuals using Advanced Humeomics’ low-lead formulation are similarly unremarkable.
